This coordinate makes it the easternmost spot in the United States. Amatignak Island sits at 179 degrees 06 minutes West, making it the westernmost spot.Point Barrow is the northernmost point in the U.S. at 71 degrees 23 minutes North latitude. Because Alaska reaches all these points, it holds three geographic records at once. The International Date Line is usually near the 180th meridian. Mapmakers zig-zag this line around the islands so the whole state stays on the same day.
