There are more LEGO minifigures on Earth than there are human beings.

LEGO designer Jens Nygaard Knudsen created the first minifigure in 1978. These small figures first appeared in sets featuring space, castles, and towns. Since then, the company has produced billions of them in various themes.The LEGO Group reported that by 2020, they had made more than 8.5 billion minifigures. Factories in Denmark, Hungary, Mexico, and China produce about 4 million new figures every day. This high production rate ensures the toy population grows faster than the human population.The United Nations estimated the global human population at 8 billion in November 2022. Because LEGO had already passed the 8.5 billion mark years earlier, the toys remain the larger group. Guinness World Records recognizes them as the largest population of toy people.Each standard minifigure is 4 centimeters tall. If you lined up every figure ever made, the chain would wrap around the Earth more than four times. This calculation is based on the total production numbers released in the company's official annual reports.
