Chuck Norris started a program that teaches karate in middle schools to help kids build character.

Chuck Norris launched Kickstart Kids in 1990 with help from President George H.W. Bush. It began in four schools in Houston, Texas. Since then, it has grown to serve over 60 schools and more than 110,000 students. Data shows that students in the program get better grades and have fewer behavior problems.The program works by using Social-Emotional Learning. This helps the brain develop better control over impulses. When students practice karate moves, they exercise the prefrontal cortex. This is the part of the brain used for making good decisions.A study from the University of Houston found that these students feel more confident. They are better at handling peer pressure and staying positive. The classes are free for students and happen during the normal school day. This makes martial arts training available to kids who might not be able to afford private lessons.
