Vincent van Gogh sold only one painting during his entire life.

The painting is titled The Red Vineyard. It shows people harvesting grapes near a French abbey. Anna Boch purchased it at an art show in Brussels just months before Van Gogh died. She was the sister of one of Van Gogh's friends and wanted to support his work.Van Gogh's brother Theo was an art dealer who tried to sell the paintings. Most people at the time did not like the bright colors and thick paint. They preferred traditional art that looked more realistic. This made Van Gogh depend on his brother for money his whole life.Some historians think Van Gogh might have traded a few paintings for food or art supplies. However, The Red Vineyard is the only sale recorded in official documents. Today, his paintings are some of the most expensive in the world. Many sell for more than $100 million at auctions.The Red Vineyard eventually moved from Belgium to Russia. A collector named Ivan Morozov bought it later. After the Russian Revolution, the government took the collection. It is now on display at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow.
