The Airbus A380 has a Maximum Takeoff Weight (MTOW) of 575 tonnes

The Airbus A380-800 first started flying passengers in October 2007. Its maximum takeoff weight is 575,000 kilograms (about 1.2 million pounds). To lift all that weight, the wingspan is nearly 80 meters (262 feet) wide. This huge surface area helps create 'lift,' which is the upward force that keeps the plane in the sky.The plane uses four powerful engines made by companies like Rolls-Royce. Each engine can push with 70,000 pounds of force. When the plane reaches 195 miles per hour on the runway, the air moving over the wings finally becomes strong enough to lift the 575-tonne body off the ground.Engineers had to use special materials to keep the plane strong but light. They used something called GLARE, which is a mix of aluminum and glass fibers. This material is better at handling the stress of flying than regular metal. To make sure the heavy plane doesn't break the airport floor, it sits on 22 specialized wheels that spread the weight out evenly.Fuel is a big part of the weight too. The A380 can carry 320,000 liters (84,500 gallons) of fuel. All that fuel allows the plane to fly for 15 hours straight, covering distances of over 9,000 miles without needing to land for a refill.
